Facilities

The Shores Holiday Apartments provides resort style accommodation Mackay. We offer many facilities for the enjoyment of guests. Outdoor facilities are between the beachfront units and the beach. Its a large open recreational area. Also we have wet weather sorted with several options for indoor play.

Swimming Pools

The Shores Holiday Apartments swimming pools are in a fenced area near the beach. The landscaped enclosure has lots of tropical plants, trees and lawn areas. Equally important the area has outdoor chairs, tables, lounges and beach umbrellas. There are two swimming pools. One had a shade sail for partial protection from the sun. The water temperature in the unshaded pool is generally warmer all year round. Besides that we have a separate shallow toddlers pool. This is great for young children. It is also shaded from the sun.

Furthermore, there is also a cold water jetted spa. The spa seats 6 people. It is in a secluded area with lots of shade from the garden. So four pool options in total.

Tennis Court

The recreational are has a full size fenced tennis court. And guests can play tennis in the evenings as they are flood lit. Racquets and balls are available on loan from reception.

BBQ’s

Who doesn’t love a BBQ? Especially when Dad’s cooking. We have two choices when it comes to barbequing at the Shores Holiday Apartments.

Firstly, located under a large shade sail is a communal BBQ area with 2 electric BBQ’s. In fact outdoor tables and chairs around the barbecue accommodate 32 people. Plenty of room for all the family. Secondly, the wood burning BBQ is great for cooking over an open flame during the cooler months. It’s located closer to the beach. So the seating around this BBQ is perfect for sitting to toast marshmallows.

Wood is provided free of charge.

Beach

Beautiful Blacks Beach is a short walk over the sand dune from the recreation area. Don’t like sand between your toes? We have that covered too. Glimpse the beach through the Melaleuca trees from the beachfront viewing platform.

Beach activities include beach cricket and bocce. Equipment is available from reception for these games. Other beach activities include kite flying, canoeing, standup paddle boarding, and kite surfing. Beach fishing is also a great pastime from the shoreline. Guests need to bring their own equipment for these activities.

Walking on Blacks Beach is very relaxing. A walk north along the beach to Blacks Beach Park and the rocky outcrop with take about 40 minutes return and is about 3kms. See lovely views to the islands and feel soft fine sand under your feet. Walking south to Blacks Beach Spit / McCreadys Creek takes a bit longer. It’s about 5 kms return. You may see blue swimmer crabs, turtles or turtle tracks on the beach. The sand becomes coarser the closer you get to the spit. Shorebirds are more prevalent closer to the spit too.

Photographers love Blacks Beach. Sunrise provides a kaleidoscope of colours.

Volleyball Net

The recreation area has a volleyball net for the use of guests. Guests may borrow a volleyball from reception.

Hopscotch

A children’s hopscotch pad is near the BBQ shelter. This old fashioned outdoor game is great for children. Hopscotch rules can be obtained from reception.

Books, DVD’s, Board Games & Puzzles

A variety of books and DVD’s are available on loan from reception. The book library includes children’s books, novels, and magazines. The DVD collection includes children’s movies, comedies, and dramas. Each unit has a DVD player. DVD’s and Books are available free of charge from reception during office hours. We also have a variety of board games, puzzles and jigsaws that guests may borrow from Reception.
